NRA Classes


 

NRA Basic Pistol - Instructor Led

This is an 8 hour NRA course.                                                                  

Class Description: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.

This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet; take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. (See Gun and Ammo rentals under Class Descriptions for more details)

Eye and Ear protection required for all shooting classes.  If you don’t have eye and ear protection, limited equipment is available.

NRA Basic Shotgun

This is an 8 hour NRA course.                                                                  

Class Description: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a shotgun safely.

This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot all types of shotguns. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting skill practical exercises and other sporting activities.  Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet; take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

Eye and Ear protection required for all shooting classes.  If you don’t have eye and ear protection, limited equipment is available.

NRA 1st Step Pistol

This is a 4 hour NRA course.

Class Description: This class consists of the NRA’s response to the American public’s need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers teach Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training.  NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

Eye and Ear protection required for all shooting classes.  If you don’t have eye and ear protection, please feel free to use our equipment.

NRA Home Firearm Safety

One of our most important classes! This class is designed for anyone deciding to own a firearm.  It is offered for adult males and females, as well as new owners. A great class to help you understand the responsibility of safe storage options, ammo, and laws, particularly with a family in the home.

Cost:  $40.00.00/person OR $75.00/couple             NO FIREARMS NEEDED FOR THIS COURSE.

NRA Personal Protection in the Home

This is a 9 hour NRA course.

This course is a good follow-up to the Intermediate Pistol Course, although only the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course or passing an NRA evaluation is required to take this course. This course includes learning basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety, and responding to a violent confrontation. You will learn to shoot from multiple positions, using cover and concealment, and how to clear your home in the event of a break-in. It also includes the legal aspects or using a handgun for self defense and the aftermath consequences of a shooting incident. You will learn how to choose the right firearm for self defense and additional opportunities for skill development in self defense shooting.

Students must have their own semi-automatic pistol or a revolver of .38 Special caliber or greater, plus ear and eye protection. Amplified hearing protection is highly recommended so students can hear range commands in a noisy environment.  The course is eight and a half to nine hours long and involves shooting approximately 100 rounds. Students will receive the 223 page NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home handbook but fee does not include ammunition cost.

NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home

Description
The NRA Personal Protection OUTSIDE The Home (PPOTH) is the next level up from NRA Personal Protection INSIDE the Home (PPITH). This course is designed to build upon the training provided in the NRA PPITH course, which needs to be demonstrated by presenting a PPITH student completion certificate, or by passing the PPITH student test with a minimum score of 70% prior to the start of the course. The focus of this course  is the effective use  of a concealed handgun for self defense on the street. Included are chapters on concealment   techniques   and   devices, presenting   the handgun  from concealment, utilizing cover and concealment outdoors. This innovative course include presentation and movement, point shooting, instinctive shooting, low-light shooting, engaging multiple targets and one- hand shooting. The skills and other presented in this course form the core shooting skills used to counter a life-threatening attack outside the home.

Duration
The course is divided into the Basic PPOTH (9-hours) and Advanced PPOTH (5-hours) totaling 14 hours of instruction. The Basic Level includes classroom sessions and live-fire range instruction covering presentation from a concealed holster (or purse), shooting from cover, shooting one-handed, and point shooting. The entire Advanced Level is spent on the range and includes moving while shooting, shooting from low cover, shooting from sitting, turning, prone, low-light and hip- shooting (called the "speed rock").

NRA Refuse To Be A Victim

A must for all independent women!  RTBAV is a class designed to teach participants to be better prepared to defend yourself.  The class is designed to improve personal safety by using proactive strategies and defining techniques and tactics that can be used to help avoid becoming an easy victim of crime, predators, mutual preparedness, home security, workplace security, web security, domestic violence, stalking, automobile and traveling safety.

NRA Range Safety Officer

The Range Safety Officer course consists of: Range Safety Officer's roles and responsibilities, range standard operating procedures, range inspection and range rules, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, and Range Safety Briefings which include emergency procedures. Candidates must also receive 90 percent or better on the written exam.

NRA Range Safety Officers must be 21 years of age or older.
